A scholar of the works of the novelist, poet, and painter Hermann Hesse, Professor Robert (Bob) H. Farquharson contributed to the University of Toronto community for almost 30 years. Bob was a professor at Victoria College and served as Chair of the Department and as Associate Dean and Vice Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Science. He was a founding member of the CAUTG, founding editor of Seminar: A Journal of Germanic Studies, and the recipient of the highest honor in Canadian German Studies, the Hermann Boeschenstein Medal. The author of a history of German at the University of Toronto, Bob will be remembered as a respected colleague and administrator, full of generosity, warmth and humour and as a great champion of German Studies in Canada.
