Academic Employment

There are three categories of academic employees at the German Department. The first two are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees. They are divided into two bargaining units, as listed below. The third group are those represented by the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA). Each employee belongs to only one category, depending upon their status at the university.

CUPE 3902 Unit 1: This group includes graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and undergraduates at UofT. Job opportunities include course instructorship and TA work.

Emergency Postings:
Teaching Assistants for Multilingual German Lab

CUPE 3902 Unit 3: This group is comprised by those not presently studying at UofT. Job opportunities consist primarily of course instructorships (known as SIs, Sessional Instructorships).

UTFA: This is the University of Toronto Faculty Association (which is not a union). Employees hired under this rubric include Faculty members, Lecturers (full and part-time), as well as CLTAs (Contractually Limited Term Appointments).

Anyone applying for positions may only apply within the category to which they currently belong, (i.e. to apply for Unit 1 positions one has to presently be a registered student at UofT).

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
