ELLIOTT SCHREIBER is associate professor and chair of the Department of German Studies at Vassar College, where he also teaches courses in a variety of multidisciplinary programs, including Media Studies as well as Science, Technology, and Society. He is the author of The Topography of Modernity: Karl Philipp Moritz and the Space of Autonomy (Cornell University Press, 2011) and co-editor of the forthcoming collection Play in the Age of Goethe: Theories, Narratives, and Practices of Play around 1800 (Bucknell University Press, 2020). His current research focuses on the creation and development of the category of imaginative play in this same time period, in particular through the genre of the literary fairy tale.
