She completed her doctoral work at the University of Toronto in 2017 with a dissertation on the role of sound and acoustic perception in late medieval devotional culture and mysticism. Focusing on the sensory participation of lay audiences in the medieval mass and the reception of mystical writings in a female monastic context, her research explores questions of premodern medialities, devotional practices, medieval textual aesthetics, and concepts and practices of space and place. Nicola Vöhringer has taught courses on German language, literature, and culture at the University of Toronto (2009 - 2015), and the National Tajik University and Russian Tajik Slavonic University in Tajikistan (2015 - 2018). ...
