Thursday, 12 March 2015, 1 PM, German Department, Odette Hall 301, 50 St. Joseph Street

MICHAEL GÖTTING is a Berlin-based Afro-German author and journalist. On Thursday, March 12 at 1 p.m. he will read excerpts from his forthcoming debut novel Contrapunctus at the German Department Lounge (Odette Hall 301). The novel is situated in Berlin in 2002 and depicts the lives of four Afro-German protagonists in the early years of the Berlin Republic, dealing with the political atmosphere of the time and its effects on their relationships; showing circumstances in which they struggle with their bonds and a sprawling sense of disconnectedness. It is a polyphonic narration which translates the musical concept of the fugue into literature.
Michael Götting received his M.A. in North American Studies and German Studies from Freie Universität Berlin. He is working as a curator and director for Ballhaus Naunynstrasse Theater Berlin. He writes essays and articles for ZEIT-ONLINE, Heinrich-Boell Stiftung and others.
