    This major bibliography of German literature offers more than 300,000 entries going back 50 years. The database provides detailed reviews of books, journal articles, and chapters in books that discuss German literature and philology.
  • MLA International Bibliography (EBSCO)
    The major world literature database comprising scholarship in literature, language, folklore, and linguistics.
  • Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA)
    The main database for scholarly articles in linguistics.
  • Historical Abstracts (EBSCO)
    A world history database covering most continents except North America, from 1450 to the present. For North American history related to the German diaspora, use America History & Life.
  • America History & Life (EBSCO)
    A database for research on American and Canadian history and culture.
  • IBZ Online
    The International Bibliography of Periodical Literature is an international and interdisciplinary bibliography of academic periodical literature, mainly from the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The database includes more than 3.3 million journal articles from 11,500 journals covering the years 1983 to the present.

Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, and Bibliographies

  • Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker
    The Klassiker is a massive online library of German literature. In addition to the full text of authors’ works, the database includes background information and commentary. It covers the works of major authors spanning eleven centuries and includes historical, philosophical, theological, political and art history texts.
  • Goethes Werke
    The complete text of Goethe’s 143-volume Weimar edition.
  • Gale Literature Criticism
    Type “German” in the Topics searchbox to narrow to German-related articles, or narrow by Author or Work using the drop-down menu under the Browse Topics heading.
  • LeMO [Lebendiges Museum Online, German Historical Museum, Berlin] An accessible and engaging historical encyclopedia on modern Germany.
  • Deutsches Literatur-Lexikon Online
    With a scope ranging from the early Middle Ages to the present, this work contains articles on German-language authors from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and other European countries. Along with entries on the lives and works of authors, the Literatur-Lexikon covers medieval German-language literature from the 8th to the 15th centuries.
