The Toronto German Studies Symposia
The Toronto German Studies Symposium was inaugurated in 2008 and has been held annually since then. It is an international conference led by a different member of the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures each year. As such, the Symposium is a wonderful combination of the local and the international, featuring speakers from Europe and North America, as well as several departmental faculty members and graduate students. The Symposium has benefited from the support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Jackman Humanities Institute, as well as departments and centres across the University. The Symposium has been strongly supportive of the professional training of graduate students in German and Yiddish Studies, providing significant opportunities for students to participate as co-convenors and co-editors of individual programs and volumes, to chair sessions, and to present papers.
