This is an open invitation to graduate students and faculty in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures to join a session of Side-By-Side Writing:
Mondays 9-11 a.m.
Tuesdays 8-10:30 a.m.
Departmental Library, OH323
Side-by-side writing works as follows: It is not a writing feedback group. It’s just a way to make writing progress while hanging out with friends and colleagues (this is also known as: zwei Fliegen auf einen Streich). The ground rules are that the assembled writers work in ca. 60-minute blocks of time. We start by briefly (one sentence) telling one another what we are working on; then we set a timer for 45 minutes, and work quietly. No talking. When the timer goes off, we stop. The timer is re-set for 15 minutes, during which time we talk, stretch, chat, take bathroom breaks, eat and drink. When the break is over, block two of writing time commences. Please be there on time (9:30 a.m. sharp), so that the session is not interrupted by late-comers. No food or drink provided, so if you think you’ll need some food during the break, bring it.
