The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT) was founded by a dedicated group of Indigenous women who saw the need for a gathering place in Toronto where Indigenous women could share resources, support one another, and practice their traditional ways. Programs address issues ranging from housing and advocacy to youth and education. The Department has made a donation earmarked for Indigenous language teaching. This focus reflects our commitment to support endangered and lesser-taught languages as well as recent initiatives to more fully engage with the lands on which we carry out our educational mission. Most recently, the NWRCT has been offering Anishinaabemowin with language keeper John Roy. We hope that this will mark the beginning of a future community partnership.
