iPRAKTIKUM internship opportunities with the German Saturday Schools

Dear German Students,

The iPRAKTIKUM team is excited to announce new internship opportunities with the German Saturday Schools (GSS), a community institution dedicated to promoting German language and culture in the GTA for nearly 70 years.

The program is designed to give you the opportunity to use your German skills in a work environment, gain hands-on experience in an educational and community setting, and contribute to the broader Toronto German-speaking community. Your internship experience can be accredited in the form of a Co-Curricular Record (CCR) that will appear on your U of T transcript.

These are paid placements in one of the following roles:

  1. Teaching Assistant
This placement includes assisting teachers in the classroom, supporting small-group or one-on-one learning activities, helping prepare teaching materials, and engaging with students during lessons and project-based activities. Tasks will be assigned in consultation with on-site teachers and may vary depending on the needs of individual classes.

    Who Should Apply?
The GSS is looking for undergraduate students with strong communication skills and an interest in education and working with young learners. Applicants should have some prior exposure to German and feel comfortable using the language in a classroom environment. Prior teaching experience is not required.
  1. Library Helper
This role includes assisting the librarian with checking books in and out, helping students select reading materials, and contributing to literacy activities and reading-related activities. Specific tasks will be assigned by the librarian on site.

Who Should Apply? The GSS is looking for reliable undergraduate students with an interest in German language and culture. While fluency in German is not required, applicants should have some prior exposure to German and a desire to practice their skills in an immersive environment.
  1. 70-Year Anniversary Coordinator
In celebration of the school’s 70th anniversary, this role may include helping develop a monthly newsletter, interviewing alumni and long-time community members, and supporting the planning and execution of commemorative events and projects. Tasks will be determined in consultation with the anniversary planning team.

    Who Should Apply?
The GSS is seeking organized, communicative undergraduate students with an interest in storytelling, community engagement, and German language and culture. Prior experience with writing, interviewing, or event support is welcome but not required.

Every effort will be made to accommodate your course schedule and other U of T commitments. Students should be able to commit 3–4 hours per week during the term as needed by the GSS. Compensation will be based on the standard rate of $29/hour. Placements will begin in the WINTER 2026 term.

Please submit a statement of interest, CV, a copy of your U of T transcript (unofficial is fine), and the contact information of at least one U of T instructor who has agreed to support your application.
