My research focuses on travel narratives in German literature from 1980 to present. I am interested in innovations German writers offer in this genre, how they fit into the German traditions of travel writing, explore the experiences of mobility, migration and colonial expanse, and seek to rewrite colonial visions of landscape or modes of thought. Authors of particular interest include Tawada, Trojanow, W. G. Sebald, Ransmayr and Kehlmann.
