Alumna Nicole Perry researching at University of Vienna

Dr. Nicole Perry graduated from the University of Toronto with a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures in 2012, and now holds a Lise-Meitner-Fellowship at the University of Vienna, Austria, where she currently works on a research project, examining the German depiction of Aboriginals in North-America. Her project is called “Performing Germanness, Reclaiming Aboriginality”, which examines the historical and contemporary reactions of North-American Aboriginals on the German depiction of indigineity.

She furthermore has recently finished a commentated edition of Charles Sealsfield’s letters, for which she consulted Swiss archives and discovered unpublished letters. Charles Sealsfield is one of the subjects of Prof. Perry’s research, as well as Sophie von La Roche, and Karl May, whose depictions of Aboriginal North-Americans fall under her examination. “Charles Sealsfield – Commentated Letters” is set to be published in 2015.
