    Background

    Dr. Alexandra Hausstein has a two year appointment as representative of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) in Canada and director of the DAAD-Information Centre in Toronto and teaches both at the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature and the Department of Anthropology of the University of Toronto. Hausstein received her M.A. in Intercultural German Studies and her PhD in Sociology of Culture from Bayreuth University, Germany. She worked and did research at various other institutions such as Keimyoung University in Taegu South Korea, Aalborg University in Denmark, University of California at Santa Barbara in the US and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. In the past few years she was involved in research and coordination of major research projects funded by the European Union at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Germany, and at the DAAD branch office Mexico City. Previous positions include work for the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) as Bologna Consultant and Project Manager and Lecturer at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen at Lake Constance, Germany. Her research focuses on the interrelatedness of culture, communication, power and knowledge, with special attention to identity politics, cultural politics, knowledge governance and scientific epistemology, as well as quality management in higher education and international cooperation in higher education and research.
